I am a prolific artist living in the Western half of the United States.
I grew up in several places, but the one that shaped me the most artistically was El Paso, Texas. Years later, I returned to Texas to teach. My work draws from the expressiveness of Mexican art and the many colors of Mexican and American Southwest cultures.
I've always heard you should paint what you know. I know children, with all their varied moods, and I know animals.
To liven up my paintings, I try to decipher and capture emotions and personalities. The subjects in my paintings should always tell a story. The story that I may be trying to tell isn’t the “real” story; the viewer should discover that for themselves when they see my work.
In my teaching, I try to pass along my love of expression, color, and storytelling to my students. I teach art to students of all ages; artistic discovery can happen whether you are starting your journey or have been on your path for a while.
